Five Athletic Commission Members appointed by, and serving at the pleasure of the Governor, serve four year terms. Thereafter, new members are appointed or current members serve until their successors are appointed. Should a vacancy occur on the Athletic Commission, the Governor appoints a successor for the remainder of the term. Commission Members include:
Ø Representative Tom Burroughs of Kansas City is a member of the Kansas House of Representatives where he has served since 1997.He currently serves on the House Appropriations Committee, Legislative Post Audit Committee, Financial Institutions and Insurance Committee, and Kansas Inc Board. Mr. Burroughs holds a Degree from Kansas City Kansas Community College and has continued studies at Friends University. Mr. Burroughs retired from Colgate-Palmolive Company after 29 years of service. He has served on numerous Boards including American Red Cross and Colgate-Palmolive Employees Credit Union in addition to receiving numerous community services awards from organizations including United Way, March of Dimes and Kansas Families for Education. His term expires June 30, 2010.
Ø Ronald W. Holt of Wichita began employment with Sedgwick County in 2002 and is currently an Assistant County Manager responsible for three divisions (Culture, Entertainment & Recreation; Public Safety; and, Community Development). Among the many responsibilities associated with this position is the project leader role for the new INTRUST Bank Arena in Downtown Wichita. Mr. Holt worked for Westar Energy in various management roles for more than 30 years. Mr. Holt graduated from Friends University with a Bachelor of Science Degree and from Wichita State University with a master’s degree in business administration. A member of various community organization boards, Mr. Holt is on the executive committee for Wichita State University Alumni Council, has served as a chairman of the regional chapter of the American Red Cross and was chairman of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Sedgwick County. His term expires June 30, 2011.
Ø Dan R. Pratt of Bonner Springs is Vice Chair of the Athletic Commission. He is Director of Athletics at Kansas City Kansas Community College. Mr. Pratt, who received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Tabor College, Hillsboro, and his Master of Science degree from Emporia, has worked in physical education for more than 20 years. Mr. Pratt has worked in K-12 and collegiate physical education programs including Henderson High School, Emporia State University, Dodge City Community College and Marymount College in various positions instructing, coaching and managing athletics. His term expires June 30, 2012.
Ø James N. Warren, Jr., MD of Topeka has been licensed by the Kansas Board of Healing Arts to practice medicine and surgery since 2001. He currently owns a private practice where he specializes in Physical Medicine, Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation. He received a Doctor in Medicine Degree from Temple University of Philadelphia and a Bachelor of Science Degree from Polytechnic University of New York. Prior to his appointment to the Athletic Commission, Dr. Warren served many years as a ringside fight doctor for both amateur and professional combat sports. He holds membership in a variety of professional organizations including the National Medical Association, American Medical Association and Kansas Medical Society. His term expires June 30, 2013.
